Winners are grinders! First in class 3 on 2nd leg of AZAB. It’s been epic and certainly an adventure. Over the 2 legs we have battled through 5 Atlantic gales & big seas, fallen off massive waves so high we can’t believe the boat is still in one piece and the rig is still there and been becalmed 5 times. Really tough race! Tired and elated in equal amounts‬. Now it’s about drying everything out. Repairing the small amount of damage we have and finally sailing home to Southampton.

Last couple of days of preparation before the start for AZAB on Saturday. Feel we are in good shape and pretty much there with all our jobs. Just the last few items of food to buy and a final look at the weather to confirm the plan for the race.
The weather for Saturday is looking good so hopefully it will be a nice gentle ease into my first Ocean Race.
Slight mishap today got a splinter right up under my nail from the pontoon, which despite my best efforts with tweezers no chance of me getting it out! Steve persuaded me to go to the minor incident centre as he was concerned it could get infected and 10 days at sea was not the place to be. 3 hours later a load of laughing gas and not much of a nail left, most of its out. So fingers crossed the last little bit will work itself out.

Lovely couple of days in Mylor and brought back great memories of training prior to 2012. Really nice to catch up with the Firefly fleet and my crew from 470 Jen, her family and also Sally and Nigel Wakefield 😁 We spent a lovely evening drinking beer in the cockpit with Chris Kameen.
